The Sydney Football Stadium (SFS), known commercially as Allianz Stadium, is a premier sporting stadium located near the heart of the Sydney CBD in Moore Park. It’s the home of the Sydney Roosters, The Waratahs and Sydney FC and often hosts major music events such as Elton John, Kiss and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
Whether you’re heading in for a Friday night footy, the iconic ANZAC Day clash or Sunday afternoon in the sun, Allianz promises atmosphere and a world class fan experience.
A Historical Ground in Australian Sport
The Sydney Football Stadium has long held a special place in Australia’s sporting landscape with a story inseparable from that of the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) next door. Together, the two venues form one of the most significant sporting precincts in the country, with a shared history spanning more than a century.
Since the late 19th century, the SCG has been a cornerstone of Australian sport, playing host to a myriad of iconic moments across cricket, rugby league, rugby union and Australian rules football and has shaped the Harbour City’s sporting identity.

The Sydney Football Stadium, commercially known as Allianz Stadium, opened in 1988 and was designed to complement the SCG by providing a purpose-built rectangular sporting ground more suitable for football codes and easing scheduling pressure on the SCG. In 2022, a new era was ushered in for the SFS. Following a complete demolition of the old site, the new stadium boasts one of the best crowd experiences in Australia thanks to steeply tiered seats and upgraded food and beverage options and has since hosted a number of fixtures in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup as well Elton John’s farewell tour.
Today, with the redevelopment of Allianz Stadium, the SCG and Sydney Football Stadium continue to operate in tandem - one representing tradition and heritage, the other modern performance and fan-focused design - cementing the precinct’s status as one of Australia’s most important sporting destinations.
