Brookvale Oval (4 Pines Park): All You Need to Know

Brookvale Oval, officially known as 4 Pines Park, is the home of the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles, located in the northern Sydney suburb of Brookvale, roughly 12 km from the CBD. Opened in 1911, it’s one of the NRL’s most iconic suburban grounds, steeped in history and closely tied to the working-class, footy-mad community of Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

The stadium is renowned for its tight, heavily localised atmosphere, where passionate Sea Eagles fans that pack the stands in maroon and white have helped create the grounds nickname - Fortress Brookevale.

Suburban Rugby League at its finest

Brookvale Oval has been the Sea Eagles’ home for over a century, playing host to both triumphs and heartbreaks that have defined the club’s identity. It hosted the 2008 NRL Grand Final preparations, the club’s minor premiership runs, and countless memorable clashes with rivals like Manly’s fiercest foes, the Melbourne Storm and Parramatta Eels. Legendary Sea Eagles players such as Brett Stewart, Cliff Lyons, and Steve Menzies have all produced iconic moments here, including Stewart’s last-minute tries and Menzies’ aerial “Superboot” catches that became club folklore.

It’s impossible to talk about 4 Pines Park without mentioning the Battle of Brookevale, an infamous melee that initially broke out between Manly’s Glenn Stuart and Melbourne’s Adam Blair. As the players made their way to the sinbin, Blair caught up to Stewart and it was on again with reinforcements flying in from the Manly team on the field and Melbourne’s bench.

With a capacity of roughly 23,000, Brookvale Oval blends old-school suburban charm with incremental upgrades, including improved grandstands, lighting, and club facilities. Despite its smaller size, the stadium’s compact nature amplifies crowd noise, giving the Sea Eagles a distinct home-ground advantage.
