Queensland Country Bank Stadium: All You Need to Know

Queensland Country Bank Stadium is the home of the North Queensland Cowboys, located in Townsville’s CBD along Ross Creek. Opened in 2020 replacing the former 1300 Smiles Stadium, the venue sits within easy walking distance of Flinders Street and the city’s main nightlife strip.

Designed largely for rugby league, the stadium has quickly developed a reputation as a tropical fortress. Humidity, heat and swirling coastal winds create challenging conditions for visiting sides, while the steep, enclosed grandstands help create a loud, intimidating atmosphere when Cowboys fans are in full voice.

A new home for Rugby League in FNQ

Queensland Country Bank Stadium replaced 1300SMILES Stadium and marked a major shift in game-day experience for fans in the north. Purpose-built and modern, the venue reflects rugby league’s deep roots in the region and the club’s standing as North Queensland’s sporting heartbeat.

With a capacity of approximately 25,000, the stadium’s design features keeps fans close to the action, amplifying crowd noise and delivering a far more intense atmosphere than its predecessor. Since opening, it has also hosted major events including NRL finals, State of Origin, international rugby league and concerts.
