The Thursday Tough Carry: Pressure on DCE, Chooks ahead of Friday Night

James Hooper dives into the mounting pressure on the Sydney Roosters in the wake of poor first round performance and lacklustre start from marquee signing Daly Cherry Evans in this weeks Thursday Tough Carry.

Immense focus on the Roosters early doors because of the DCE signing and the way the Tricolours forward pack got completely steamrolled by the Wahs in round one.

Because he’s the Chooks marquee man we’re going to focus the Thursday Tough Carry on Daly Cherry-Evans.

Talk about a baptism of fire. DCE’s captained Queensland, played Test football for Australia and won a premiership in his rookie season in the NRL with the Sea Eagles all the way back in 2011. But Friday night’s blockbuster against foundation club arch-rivals South Sydney is going to be a next level experience for Daly.

The rivalry between the Roosters and Souths is a whole different ball game.

Bumper crowd, fans frothing, and DCE’s got the job of lining up opposite the in-form trio of Cody Walker, David Fifita and Latrell Mitchell.

Now Latrell looked in a mood in round one against the Dolphins. And Latrell’s always in a mood against the club he won two premierships with - the Chooks.

Trent Robinson’s made the call to give Siua Wong the job of being DCE’s bodyguard on Friday night.

Nat Butcher goes back to the bench.

And outside of Cody, big Dave Fifita and Latrell running at him we’ve got Bunnies local junior Alex Johnston looking to become the greatest try-scorer in rugby league history dating back to 1908.

It’s a script only the greatest game of all rugby league can deliver.

There’ll be no dinner suit for DCE on Friday night. Fifita’s going to have a bullseye painted on the champion halfback.

Buckle up. It might only be round two but the Roosters don’t tolerate anything but success. Especially against Souths.
