WIN Stadium: All You Need to Know

Win Stadium, one of two home grounds used by the St George Illawarra Dragons, and located on the picturesque NSW South Coast is one of the most stunning and unique sporting facilities in Australia.

With a capacity of around 22,000, WIN Stadium delivers a more intimate and classic rugby league experience than the larger Sydney venues. Situated right on Wollongong Beach, in the heart of Dragons territory in the Illawarra, it is a ground that is hard to forget.

Whether it’s a Sunday afternoon in the sea breeze or a Friday night contest under lights, WIN Stadium offers a raw, close-to-the-action rugby league atmosphere that feels uniquely Australian.

A Coastal Stronghold in Rugby League

Rugby league in the Illawarra predates the joint venture. The region has produced generations of elite players and has long been a heartland for the code.

WIN Stadium evolved from a suburban showground into a purpose-developed rectangular venue, with significant upgrades completed in phases across the 2000s. The Eastern Grandstand provides covered seating and improved corporate facilities, while the northern hill preserves the traditional grass-terrace experience that defines regional grounds.

Unlike multi-code metropolitan stadiums, WIN Stadium remains unmistakably league-first in character. When the Dragons play here, the crowd sits close, the hill gets vocal and the sea air carries the noise across the ground.

Best Places for a Pre-Game Drink

Illawarra Brewery (WIN Entertainment Centre)

Directly next door to the stadium and with incredible views of the Wollongong coastline, you can’t go past the Illawarra Brewery. With a number of in house craft beers, Aussie favourites and a classic pub menu, rest assured knowing your trip to the ‘Gong will be getting off to the best of starts.

The Builders Club

A modern club roughly a 20 minute walk from the ground boasting the largest TV screen in the Illawarra at its Legends Sportsbar. The perfect venue to watch the earlier match over lunch before heading to the main event at Win Stadium.

The Steelers

Located just across the road from WIN Stadium on Burelli Street, the Wollongong Steelers Club is often teaming with Dragons fans pre and post match. The Steelers offers a unique glimpse at rugby league history before the days of the Superleague war and is the heart of the game in the Illawarra.

Getting There

Around 1,200 parking spaces are available within walking distance of WIN Stadium and WIN Entertainment Centre, including the WIN Stadium Car Park, Stewart Street car parks and several CBD locations such as Wollongong Central and Crown Central. Pay-and-display and special event rates may apply, so planning ahead is recommended for major events.

Wollongong Station is a short walk from the venues, with regular South Coast Line services. Local buses operate throughout the CBD, and the free Gong Shuttle (routes 55A and 55C) runs in a loop between the station, hospital, university and city centre at regular intervals daily.

Taxi ranks are located on Burelli Street and at Crown and Harbour Streets, with secure late-night ranks operating in the CBD. A designated drop-off zone is also available on Burelli Street.

Game Day

Food & Drinks

WIN Stadium focuses on traditional rugby league fare. Expect meat pies, hot chips, burgers, hot dogs and basic grill options throughout the concourse. Beverage outlets serve a standard range of tap beers, RTDs, wine and soft drinks.

While not positioned as a premium dining venue, the compact layout means queues tend to move efficiently compared to larger metropolitan grounds.

Merchandise

Official St George Illawarra Dragons merchandise is available at temporary outlets inside the stadium on match day. Core items include jerseys, supporter tees, scarves and caps. For a broader range, the Dragons’ official online store remains the primary retail channel.

Accessibility

WIN Stadium provides accessible seating areas and accessible bathroom facilities. Patrons with mobility requirements should contact the venue or the Dragons in advance to coordinate seating allocations.

Payment

Most outlets operate cashless, accepting card and mobile payments. It is advisable to carry a debit or credit card.

Post Match

Crown Street Mall

The immediate CBD strip becomes the natural post-game destination. Casual pubs, restaurants and late-night takeaway options are all within walking distance.

Humber Rooftop Bar – For something more contemporary, Humber offers cocktails and elevated pub fare in the centre of town. For something more contemporary, Humber offers cocktails and elevated pub meals in the middle of town.

Wollongong Harbour / Blue Mile

If weather permits, a walk toward the harbour offers a calmer post-match wind-down with ocean views and cafés.

Late-Night Options

Venues like Humber, Howlin’ Wolf and various Crown Street bars provide options for those continuing the night beyond the final siren.

WIN Stadium may not match the scale of Sydney’s major venues, but that is precisely its strength. It delivers proximity, identity and atmosphere - a coastal rugby league experience grounded in community rather than spectacle.
